What the?!!?

Somebody made this comment in my previous post. At first I was in rage, who the hell this guy (or girl) thinks he is? I don't think runners who have a sensible brain would post such a thing. BUt in the end, I'm flattered, that this unobtrusive blog would catch someone's attention and actually comment (however ridiculous it is):

Anonymous:
"And I bet you were one of the ignorant walkers who started amongst and in front of the serious runners and then got in the way of the runners behind you by walking on the right side of the road!! You (and ignorant people like you) want to stroll in the sun causing a rather unpleasant day for those of us who actually like to run at our best. My bet is that you don't run or walk any other day other than the ones where you can interfere with serious runners."

I say, get a life mate. If you're damn serious about running, why be bothered by "ignorant walkers or strollers"? Don't go looking for a scapegoat if you didn't finish at your best. That run was for charity, for crying out loud!
So stop being a jerk.

I ran the bridge!

21.09.08 - Sydney Running Festival, my first International race... yess feeling like an athlete... Phils represent! =)

Too bad I didn't have a running Filo buddy, nor anything Philippines in my shirt, that would be cooler.

I was really anxious the past 2 days since I was unsure if I can finish 9km. I only did 5k back home for the last 3 races I've entered. I also didn't have a lot of training except for the 3 weekend mornings where I ran with Judy/Tammy, and the usual walking to-fro the bus station. I paid to join the Family Fun Run - 4K for friggin 40 AUD! No singlet, just the bib and a time chip (first time to use one!) and maybe just bragging rights that I was in the Sydney Running Festival. *LOL*

So there, I did The Sunday Telegraph body & soul Bridge Run - 9 KM in... 1:18:ss!!!

Early in the race I was nervous if I can finish it, the runners seem intimidating.. they looked so fit, buffed, and "porma" in their running gears. The racers were so diverse -- old, young, fat, slim, asians, whites and blacks. Some were running with their kids in prams, 2 japanese girls in Kimonos, a jap couple in Kikkoman thingie, and a cheerleader.

Early on, my pacers were the 2 jap girls in kimonos which I think may have finished right behind (me thinks). Plus, there's a chubby girl in black/pink, which I always try to outran, but at some point she caught up with me because I was just walking.. hehe..

From Milson's point, we head to the Harbour Bridge, that's like between 2-3 KMs and then turned left to an adjacent bridge, before going to College st. From here, left to Art Gallery Rd, ran past the Museum, made a U-Turn, then head back to College St, till the finish line in front of the Opera House.

I stopped 2x for water, because I cannot (for the life of me) imagine, running continuously. I walked a few times - especially during uphills. I also stopped a few times to take pictures -- hehe. I know I was 50 mins - 6K, and 1 hr for 7K.

On to 7K mark, the song playing on my iPod was "Flying Away" by Moony. It was perfect. It was like breaking free from my limitations and just proving that I can do it. And I did finish. Before crossing the finish line, I took off my cap and pulled out my ponytail and just let the wind push me till I reach my goal.

Not bad for a first timer like me. Maybe when I get back I might try doing 10k... and eventually 21K... and eventually the marathon... *whew*...

I really need new running gears.
